Dr Amélie Walter: a visionary photographer and the new director of the LIK Gallery in Vienna
Art and passion – Dr Amélie Walter's journey in photography
Dr Amélie Walter, a formidable figure in the world of photography, stands for a distinctive visual language that never fails to amaze her viewers. Her career reflects an extraordinary combination of artistic vision, academic background and practical expertise. From 2025, she will take over the management of the exhibition programme at Galerie LIK in Vienna, bringing with her extensive experience and an eye for artistic excellence.
Education and artistic influence
Amélie Walter completed her training in photography at the renowned LIK Academy for Photo and Design in Vienna. Her participation in the course for artistic photography under the direction of Lena Rosa Händle, a renowned artist who significantly influenced Walter's eye for concept and detail, was particularly formative for her artistic style.
She complemented her training by attending workshops with international photography greats:
Alexander Ehhalt, a master of portrait and reportage photography who honed Amélie's sense of emotion and storytelling.
Bruce Barnbaum, an icon of artistic landscape photography, whose technical and philosophical approaches inspired Walter profoundly.
Artistic work and exhibitions
Dr Amélie Walter has presented her work in both solo and group exhibitions, repeatedly exploring new perspectives and themes. Among the highlights of her career is the solo exhibition ‘The Silence in the Ice, Spitzbergen’ at the LIK Gallery (2019). This exhibition, inspired by a journey to the untouched expanses of Spitzbergen, impressively explores the connection between nature, isolation and silence.
Other notable stops in her exhibition career include:
group exhibitions in Vienna, which demonstrate her versatility and love of experimentation.
duo exhibitions in Heidelberg, which highlighted the dialogue between her work and other artists.
A new chapter: Managing Director of LIK Gallery in Vienna
From 2025, Dr Amélie Walter will take on a new role: she will be taking over the management of the Galerie LIKexhibition space in Vienna. With her experience as a photographer and her deep understanding of artistic processes, she brings a breath of fresh air to the gallery's work. Her goal is to further develop the gallery as a platform for innovative, contemporary photography and to provide a stage for both emerging and established artists.

promote young talent through exhibitions and workshops.
Curate thematic exhibitions that address current social and aesthetic issues.
Strengthening the international network of the LIK Gallery.
